Celebrating 80 Years of Benelux in Seoul
Happy Birthday, Benelux!
On October 18, we gathered in Seoul for a gala event hosted by the Belgian Korean Business Forum, alongside the Dutch Business Council Korea (DBCK) and the Embassy of Luxembourg. This celebration marked the 80th anniversary of the Benelux union, founded on September 5, 1944, in London. It was a night dedicated to strengthening our ties and honoring the friendships formed among our three amazing communities.
The gala was a magnificent celebration, bringing together business leaders, diplomats, and community members to honor the spirit of Benelux. The evening featured a range of activities, including speeches from key representatives and a delightful dinner!
A Brief History of Benelux
The idea of Benelux was born out of the desire for cooperation and unity among Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg in the aftermath of World War II. The name “Benelux” combines the first letters of each country’s name, symbolizing a commitment to economic collaboration and political stability. The agreement aimed to promote trade and investment, paving the way for a shared market and enhancing the region’s economic resilience.
Since its inception, Benelux has evolved into a cornerstone of European cooperation, serving as a model for regional integration. The union has played a crucial role in fostering cultural exchanges, economic growth, and diplomatic relations among its member countries. Today, the spirit of Benelux continues to thrive, reflecting the values of unity and collaboration.
